Medieval lion lore; modern mascot
Lion (Roger)
Themes & interpretation: Vigilance and resurrection in Christian bestiary tradition
Medieval bestiaries describe the lion sleeping with open eyes and restoring its cubs to life after three days. These stories were interpreted through Christian ideas of vigilance and resurrection. Roger is our modern mascot name; his weary personality is a brand invention.
