Medieval bestiary tradition
Panther
Themes & interpretation: Christ and resurrection in Christian allegory
A many-coloured panther sleeps after feeding, then wakes with a sweet-smelling cry that attracts other animals. Only the dragon flees. Medieval Christian writers read the panther as an image of Christ.
